Why do wires and cables catch fire? What are the corresponding measures?

- Jun 25, 2020-

Wires and cables are used in any construction process. Once the wires catch fire, the lighter and the more severe will cause a fire accident. It should also be noted that the wire will produce a lot of thick smoke and poisonous gas during the burning process, which not only pollutes the environment, but also endangers lives.

1. There is a problem with the quality of the wire

(1) The quality of the cable itself is too poor, and the ports and intermediate connectors are not manufactured well.

(2) Continuous operation leads to insulation aging and short circuit fire.

(3) For long-term overload operation, the safety device cannot cut off the short-circuit current of the load in time, resulting in overheating of the insulation, which will cause a short-circuit and fire.

(4) Caused by mechanical damage from external forces.

(5) Oil leakage of oil-filled cable causes fire.

2. External reasons

(1) During construction, the slag ignites the cable when the metal is cut by electric welding.

(2) Fire caused by other electrical failures.

(3) The fire prevention measures in the cable tunnel are improper, and the power cable is immersed in water to induce fire.

(4) Rodent damage may also cause cable fire.

3. Prevention

(1) Good construction environment to ensure construction quality.

(2) Choose a reasonable wire according to the load, and the capacity of the wire should also leave as much room as possible.

(3) Improve the barrier measures for the middle joints of the wires, and check the terminal heads of the wires and the middle joints regularly.

(4) Regularly inspect the line.

(5) Do a good job in accident prevention and drills.

(6) Strengthen the installation of fire extinguishing equipment, install fire alarm to deal with the induced fire situation in time.
