Tips for extending the life of wires

- Jul 10, 2020-

In real life, wires can generally be used within 20 years. Irregular operation during use has gradually reduced its life. In addition, wires and cables will age after a certain number of years of use, especially the wires used in our home improvement. In actual use, the causes of aging are also various. How to extend the service life of the wires?

The length of the wire life depends on the quality of the wire and the environment in which the wire is installed and used. The wire is mainly insulated by the outer layer of sheath. After a long time, it will be corroded by corrosive gas, and the insulation performance will gradually decrease. It will gradually age and become hard, become brittle or fall off. At this time, it will not be insulated. The outer insulating layer of household electric wire is mostly made of plastic and rubber, and it will age and lose its insulating effect after a long time of use. The loss of insulation performance of wires is very dangerous. If two wires touch together or the live wire touches something that is connected to the earth, the phenomenon of electricity running will occur, which will increase the temperature of the local wires and produce sparks. If there is flammable material near the wire, it is easy to catch fire and cause fire.

Therefore, we can pay attention to the following points during use, which can also effectively extend the service life of the cable:

(1) The wires should not be damp, heated, corroded or bruised.

(2) The wires should be inspected after a certain number of years of use. If any defects are found, they should be replaced in time.

(3) Do not overload the wire.

(4) Frequently check the use of electrical and wiring at home, and carry out maintenance and repair in time.

(5) If the lines of old buildings are found to be flooded or wet, especially if the lines are out of repair and aging, please immediately ask an electrician to repair them.

(6) For lines that are prone to flooding, electricians should be asked to relocate the lines and take overhead and moisture-proof measures.

(7) If there is a power failure in rainy weather, immediately cut off the power supply, ask an electrician to check the cause, and send someone to take care of it.

Therefore, measures to slow down circuit aging should be taken in daily life, and moisture-proof measures should be taken for exposed wires. Electrical appliances with different voltage requirements should choose wires of different sizes. If the power cord is found to be aged or damaged, replace it in time, and replace it with the specifications of the original power cord.
